Sample questions

Six questions from the Oregon bank, with the rule behind each answer

Sample 1 · Oregon Cdl Classes Permits Testing And Driver Qualifications

A road tractor rated at 19,500 pounds couples to a semitrailer rated at 12,000 pounds. Which CDL class describes the rated combination?

  1. Class A, because the combined rating is at least 26,001 pounds and the trailer exceeds 10,000 poundsCorrect
  2. Class B, because the tractor alone is under the heavy-vehicle threshold
  3. Class C, because every two-unit vehicle is treated as a small commercial vehicle
  4. No CDL class, because only the loaded scale weight controls classification

Why: The two ratings total 31,500 pounds, and the 12,000-pound trailer rating satisfies the separate Class A towing condition.

Sample 2 · Speed Space Hazards Weather And Railroad Crossings

A car looks distant and unusually small in the truck's convex mirror. What judgment error must the driver avoid?

  1. Assuming the car is farther away than it really isCorrect
  2. Believing a convex mirror can show any traffic beside the truck
  3. Treating a brief mirror glance as longer than a forward-road scan
  4. Assuming the mirror always enlarges vehicles behind the truck

Why: Convex mirrors widen the view but shrink reflected objects, so the driver must compensate for their apparent extra distance.

Sample 3 · Cargo Inspection Weight Balance And Securement

Warehouse employees load and seal a trailer before the driver arrives. Which cargo duties still belong to the driver?

  1. Recognize overload or poor balance, ensure securement, preserve visibility, and keep emergency equipment accessibleCorrect
  2. Accept every loading decision because the seal transfers all responsibility
  3. Check only the shipping address and ignore weight distribution
  4. Open the seal solely to rearrange freight for cosmetic appearance

Why: A third party may perform the loading, but the driver retains responsibility for the vehicle's safe cargo condition and operation.

Sample 4 · Passenger Vehicle Inspection Loading And Operation

The previous bus inspection report lists a defective exit alarm. When may the next driver sign that report?

  1. After passengers board, even if nobody addressed the alarm
  2. Only after erasing every listed defect from the document
  3. After the defect is certified repaired or certified as not requiring repairCorrect
  4. Before reading it, because another driver discovered the problem

Why: The signature follows documented disposition of each reported defect, not merely acknowledgment that the old report exists.

Sample 5 · Combination Vehicle Control Coupling And Inspection

A semitrailer is heavy along the left wall and stacked high. Which loading change most directly lowers rollover risk?

  1. Shift all weight behind the trailer's rear axle
  2. Raise the suspension so the center of gravity becomes taller
  3. Move weight lower, toward the center, and distribute it more evenlyCorrect
  4. Add more freight to the upper left corner

Why: A low, centered, balanced load reduces both center-of-gravity height and the side force that promotes a combination rollover.

Sample 6 · Hazardous Materials And School Bus Safety

A hazardous-material package is leaking when the carrier presents it to the driver. Which responsibility controls the driver's decision?

  1. Hide the leak behind a placard and begin the trip
  2. Remove all shipping papers so the cargo becomes ordinary freight
  3. Reject an unsafe or improperly prepared package and accept only a compliant shipmentCorrect
  4. Accept every package once the shipper signs any document

Why: The driver remains responsible for rejecting leaks or preparation defects, maintaining required papers and placards, and transporting accepted cargo safely.

What is on the test

The 10 topics the Oregon CDL practice test covers

These are Oregon's own topic areas, from oregon cdl classes permits testing and driver qualifications to hazardous materials and school bus safety, each with 10 questions. Under each one are two questions from the bank, shown without their answers; the practice test explains every one of them.

  1. Oregon Cdl Classes Permits Testing And Driver Qualifications10 questions
    • A 30,200-pound-rated delivery truck pulls a 7,600-pound-rated utility trailer. What class definition fits this equipment?
    • A hotel shuttle is below the Class A and B weight limits but was built with fifteen passenger seats plus the driver's seat. What triggers CDL coverage?
  2. Vehicle Inspection Control Visibility And Communication10 questions
    • A pre-trip check reveals a steering component close to failure. Why is finding it before departure especially important?
    • Halfway through a route, the driver notices a new odor and an unfamiliar vibration. How should those clues be treated?
  3. Speed Space Hazards Weather And Railroad Crossings10 questions
    • When should a lane-change signal be discontinued?
    • Rain is collecting faster than a tractor's tires can channel it away. Which combined risk should guide the driver?

How to prepare

A study plan for the Oregon CDL knowledge test

1

Find out where you stand

Take a Quick check of 25 in coaching mode. Read each explanation, including the ones you got right; it tells you the rule Oregon tests, not just the answer.

2

Study the topics you missed

Your account's Study tab ranks the 10 topics by your results. Read that chapter of the Oregon Commercial Driver Manual, then take another Quick check to confirm the gap has closed.

3

Rehearse the real thing

Take the Full challenge of 100 in exam mode. Aim for 80 percent or better twice in a row; at that point you are answering from the rules, not from memory of the questions.

Questions

Oregon CDL practice test questions

Is this the official Oregon CDL knowledge test?

No. DMV Exam Pass is an independent study service and is not affiliated with Oregon Department of Transportation, Driver and Motor Vehicle Services. The questions are written in the style of the exam to prepare you for it; the official test is taken with the agency.

What does the Oregon CDL practice test cover?

The 100 questions are spread evenly across 10 topics: Oregon Cdl Classes Permits Testing And Driver Qualifications, Vehicle Inspection Control Visibility And Communication, Speed Space Hazards Weather And Railroad Crossings, Emergencies Abs Skids Crashes Fires And Driver Fitness, Cargo Inspection Weight Balance And Securement, Passenger Vehicle Inspection Loading And Operation, Air Brake Components Inspection And Use, Combination Vehicle Control Coupling And Inspection, Doubles Triples And Tank Vehicle Operation, and Hazardous Materials And School Bus Safety. Every test you take draws from all of them, so a weak area shows up quickly.

How many questions are in the practice test, and how long does it take?

The Oregon bank holds 100 questions. A Quick check of 25 takes about ten minutes, a Practice run of 50 about twenty, and the Full challenge of 100 about forty. You can pause any time.

Are these the real questions from the Oregon exam?

No. Nobody outside the agency has the real questions, and we do not use, claim, or advertise leaked or exact exam questions. These are independently written questions that test the same rules, so what you learn transfers to whatever the real test asks.

Which handbook should I study for the Oregon CDL knowledge test?

The Oregon Commercial Driver Manual, published by Oregon Department of Transportation, Driver and Motor Vehicle Services. Every question here is written for it, and each explanation names the rule, so when you miss a question you know which chapter to read.

What is the difference between coaching mode and exam mode?

Coaching mode shows whether each answer was right, and why, before you move on; it is for learning. Exam mode holds the explanations and the correct choices until the end and still shows your running score; it is for checking readiness. Both draw from the same bank, and scoring happens on our servers, so no answer key is loaded in your browser.

Does the practice test include road signs and pictures?

Yes. 1 of the 100 questions are illustrated with a sign, signal, marking, or road scene, the way the CDL knowledge test presents them.

Is the Oregon practice test free, and do I need an account?

It is free, with no sign-up. An optional account saves your progress across devices and shows which topics need work.

Can I pause and come back later?

Yes. A test in progress is saved on this device and offered again when you return. With an account, it is saved to your account as well, so you can continue on another device.

What score should I aim for before test day?

Aim for 80 percent or better on a Full challenge in exam mode, more than once. The official passing score is set by the agency; scoring consistently above 80 here means you are answering from the rules rather than from luck.
